Moisture insulation is a protective layer used in building partitions. It protects them against the penetration of moisture from the ground, precipitation or condensation. Moisture insulation prevents structural elements from becoming damp, protecting them from degradation, biological corrosion and loss of thermal insulation properties.
Damp proofing is used in various places. Examples include foundations, basement walls and floors, flat and sloping roofs, terraces and in wet and damp rooms such as bathrooms or laundries. Materials used for insulation include asphalt roofing felt, mineral and polymeric coatings (e.g. liquid film) and EPDM membranes. The latter are characterised by high resistance to water, UV radiation and weathering. The choice of technology depends on soil and water conditions, the specifics of the construction and the intended use building.
