Roof sheathing is the structural layer on which the roof covering, such as tiles, sheet tiles or shingles, is laid. It provides a rigid base, ensuring the stability of the roof slope and the even transfer of loads, including snow, wind and the weight of the covering.
In timber-frame and prefabricated houses, the roof sheathing is usually made of OSB or MFP.which are nailed to trusses or rafters. A pre-covering layer (roofing membrane or felt) is placed between the sheathing and the thermal insulation to protect the structure from moisture.
It also serves stabilising function - stiffens the rafter framing, improves resistance to wind pressure and suction and increases the durability of the entire structure. Depending on the type of roof and covering, the appropriate thickness and type of panels are selected to ensure the durability and airtightness of the envelope.
