Layered wall

Layered wall is a building envelope made up of several functional layers, each of which has a distinct role: structural, insulating, sheathing or finishing. The layout of a sandwich wall can vary depending on the construction technology. In frame and modular construction, the following layers are typical: internal sheathing, vapour barrier, thermal insulation between posts, wind barrier and external façade.

Unlike single-layer walls, sandwich wall allows thermal and acoustic parameters to be optimised without compromising the load-bearing capacity of the structure. It also allows installations to be carried out without interfering with the load-bearing layer, which simplifies installation work. The choice of thickness and type of individual layers depends on the climate zone, the type of building and the expected energy standard. Layered technology makes it easier to meet technical requirements for insulation and thermal protection.
