Pergola is an element of garden architecture. It consists of vertical posts or columns supporting an openwork horizontal structure, usually made of wood, metal or plastic. The pergola has a decorative and utilitarian function. It provides partial or complete shade, support for climbing plants and encloses the recreational space in the gardenon the terrace or at home.
Modern pergolas are sometimes equipped with adjustable canopies, lighting and even side cover systems. This increases their functionality and comfort of use. They are used in both private and public spaces, for example in parks, squares or by restaurants as canopies for catering gardens. Depending on the design, pergolas can be free-standing or adjacent to the building, acting as an extension of the seating area.
