Building area

Building area is the area occupied by the building on the plot, measured at ground level at the contour of the exterior walls of the building. It does not take into account elements such as terraces, external stairs, driveways or protruding parts of the building that do not directly contact the ground (e.g. balconies or roof eaves). The built-up area is an essential parameter in spatial planning, determining how much of a plot of land can be allocated for construction, in accordance with local regulations and the development plan.
